The Aquarium of Genoa is the biggest aquarium in Italian and the second in Europe after the one in Valencia, Spain.
It is located in Ponte Spinola, in the old port, which was inaugurated in 1992 for the Colombiadi , the Expo to celebrate the five hundredth anniversary of the discovery of America.
The visit of approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes stretches over a total area of over 10,000 meters and provides a path of 40 tanks with the natural environment originating from different individual species.
The structure does not only marine species , but also animals of the rainforests and freshwater not only sharks, dolphins, seals and penguins but also plants and reptiles and even a special area dedicated to the Hummingbird .
On July 26, the Aquarium opened its new Pavilion Cetacean four open tanks which in addition to offering more space for dolphins, allow visitors to admire them closer and listen in live sound and their ways to communicate.
